Resting in Your Spirit

Posted in Catholic, Christian, Faith, In a nutshell, Thomas Sowell with tags , , , , , on October 18, 2011 by Joanna

I am witness.
I am martyr.
You are silence in action,
No moving parts,
Yet accomplishing Your intent,
While I keep watch.
You rest upon Your Altar.
I rest in You.

You are Son.
You are Witness.
You are Martyr.
You are Living Testament,
Covenanting with Man,
Promising me.

Draw me.
Give me Your vision of holiness.
Cause me to desire.
Infuse wisdom
As answer to my pleading desire.

O, Happy Cause.
O, Moving Spirit.
Be one with the essence of me,
That fallen nature might drink
Of Your Eternal Spring.

Jesus , Savior in Repose

Posted in Catholic, Christ, Christian, devotion, Faith with tags , , , , , , , on September 28, 2011 by Joanna
O, my Jesus, in gentle and humble repose upon the altar,
Wrap Your arms about me.
My body yearns for Your embrace.
Only Your Humanity can unlock the treasure trove of grace,
You hold in store for me, a repentant sinner,
Grace, You purchased for me by Your Coming to Man as Man,
In Your weakness and poverty and might.
You called Yourself, Son of Man,
And by Your obedience, suffering and Death upon the Cross,
Showed us True Love.

All Holy, All Human, All Love,
Servant of God, Benefit and Benefactor of Man,
Apply the fruit of Your Saving Death
To my humanity,
To the glory of God and the continuous deification of my poor, desirous body and soul.
Conceive in me thoughts, words and deeds, which bring to fulfillment,
Our Father's plan for my life and eternity,
So, that purged of all Sin and concupiscience,
I might shine with radiant joy,
Hidden and secure in Your Heart,
As does Your Virgin Mother, Mary.

"Be it done to me according to Your Word."
Amen.

Carmelite tells of Incense of the Heart

Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament

Body & Soul

There are moments when the physical and the spiritual harmonize in an astounding, yet simple symphonic moment.

That just happened to me.

You see, our Chapel is connected to our convent. So yesterday evening as I was walking in from the gardens, I was met by the unmistakable fragrance of incense, in the hallway of the convent. I’ve probably had this experience a hundred times, but last night it was very moving.

Incense is a sign of our adoration of God. We use it every day in our convents during Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and Benediction. It is a sign not only of our prayers rising before Him, but the total holocaust of our lives that we offer, holding nothing back, being totally consumed in the Flames of His Love.

But I was not in a particularly sacred space. It was a hallway. Actually, there was a bathroom right by where I smelled the incense. I pass through this area countless times every day. I probably know every nook and cranny. It could not be more familiar, or mundane for that matter.

Despite all this (because of all this?) I encountered a reminder of God’s presence. He is here. Right in the midst of my everyday “stuff.” A routine I follow day in and day out. Surroundings that I know like the back of my hand. Steps I could take blindfolded. Last night I was stopped in my tracks and made to reflect, “He is here. He is always here with me.”

I smelled it with my nose as I looked around with my eyes at what I could reach out and touch and know so well. And my spirit rose up within me. Just a brief moment, but deeply profound. Again, physical and spiritual intertwined in an inseparable and graced union.

My point is not to make you jealous of the beautiful life we have in Carmel. That hallway will be bustling today with sisters headed here and there, busy about the Father’s business. It will be moped later this week and the toilets will be scrubbed. Still, daily the perfume from the altar will penetrate this space, making it holy. May this same fragrance fill your lives, your very ordinary, yet anointed, lives.

Prayer At Adoration

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , on October 11, 2010 by Joanna

You, My Lord, light up my darkness.  I join my voice to the bright “Hosannas” of adoring angels. With the elect of Heaven here at my side, I call upon these holy saints and angels to remember before the throne of God all who labor in Your vineyard. Make me Your monstrance that I may carry You in my heart and be Your light to all I meet today.  Amen.

In Adoration Waiting

Posted in My Journal with tags , , , , , , , on September 20, 2010 by Joanna

You are before me,  Bright Light.

The Darkness without shouts,

But I gaze heavenward.

My eyes rest upon You, Lamb of God

In Your rest upon the Altar of Your repose.

Having conquered all by Your Cross and sacrificial Death,

You spread Your mantle over the centuries

Till Your glorious Coming.

I see You enthroned on the altar

and offer You the throne and altar of my heart

Here You are enshined in my life, now hidden in Your’s.

The Darkness without lies and denies You,

But the Spirit within gives witness,

That dispels all blindness,

Preparing me to do battle in this stillness.

“Stand still and know the I Am God.”

Adoration for Reparation for Sexual Abuses by Priests – Vatican

Posted in Catholic, Church, News, Prayer, Vatican with tags , , , , , , , , on May 30, 2010 by Joanna

John Thavis posted in Catholic News Service:

The Vatican is hosting two hours of  Eucharistic Adoration “in reparation for abuses committed by priests and for the healing of this wound within the church.”The service in St. Peter’s Basilica this Saturday will feature an hour of silent adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, an hour of prayer and meditation, and a solemn blessing at the end.

The unusual initiative was organized by Catholic university students in Rome. Sources said the event was originally planned for the small Church of St. Anne inside Vatican City, but that it was moved to St. Peter’s at the suggestion of Cardinal Angelo Comastri, who is archpriest of the basilica.

Here I am to worship,
Here I am to bow down,
Here I am to say that You’re my God
You’re altogether lovely
All together worthy,
All together wonderful to me

Hidden Grace of the Sacrament

Thomas A’ Kempis’words in My Imitation of Christ are ever new speaking to the heart. Preparations of a soul are often given little regard in the world, so let’s draw apart from the world to consider the gift, the soul and the benefits of our Faith received:

Here in the Sacrament of the altar You are wholly present, my God, the man Christ Jesus, whence is obtained the full realization of eternal salvation, as often as You are worthily and devoutly received. To this, indeed, we are not drawn by levity, or curiosity, or sensuality, but by firm faith, devout hope, and sincere love. O God, hidden Creator of the world, how wonderfully You deal with us! How sweetly and graciously You dispose of things with Your elect to whom You offer Yourself to be received in this Sacrament! This, indeed, surpasses all understanding. This in a special manner attracts the hearts of the devout and inflames their love. Your truly faithful servants, who give their whole life to amendment, often receive in Holy Communion the great grace of devotion and love of virtue. Oh, the wonderful and hidden grace of this Sacrament which only the faithful of Christ understand, which unbelievers and slaves of sin cannot experience! In it spiritual grace is conferred, lost virtue restored, and the beauty, marred by sin, repaired. At times, indeed, its grace is so great that, from the fullness of the devotion, not only the mind but also the frail body feels filled with greater strength. Nevertheless, our neglect and coldness is much to be deplored and pitied, when we are not moved to receive with greater fervor Christ in Whom is the hope and merit of all who will be saved. He is our sanctification and redemption. He is our consolation in this life and the eternal joy of the blessed in heaven. This being true, it is lamentable that many pay so little heed to the salutary Mystery which fills the heavens with joy and maintains the whole universe in being. Oh, the blindness and the hardness of the heart of man that does not show more regard for so wonderful a gift, but rather falls into carelessness from its daily use! If this most holy Sacrament were celebrated in only one place and consecrated by only one priest in the whole world, with what great desire, do you think, would men be attracted to that place, to that priest of God, in order to witness the celebration of the divine Mysteries! But now there are many priests and Mass is offered in many places, that God’s grace and love for men may appear the more clearly as the Sacred Communion is spread more widely through the world. Thanks be to You, Jesus, everlasting Good Shepherd, Who have seen fit to feed us poor exiled people with Your precious Body and Blood, and to invite us with words from Your own lips to partake of these sacred Mysteries: “Come to Me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will refresh you.” Book 4: chapter 1

Meditation from Carmel

God does not ask a great deal from us.  A brief remembrance from time to time. A brief act of adoration occasionally to ask Him for his grace,or offer Him your sufferings.  At other times to thank him for the graces He has given you and is giving you. In the midst of your work find consolation in Him as often as possible. During your meals and conversations occasionally lift up your heart to Him The least little remembrance of Him will always be most agreeable.  You need not shout out.  He is closer to us than we may think.

Happy Recourse

It’s cold and damp today and that suited my mood as I hurried out of the house this morning.  It is my day for Eucharistic Adoration. My adoration was broken by returning bits and pieces of my rant against this morning’s news. President Obama will celebrate the overturning of the ban on federal funding for embryonic stem cell research with an “event”  in the White House. No Friday announcement behind closed doors here.

” What recourse; O Lord! What recourse?”…………… Thankfully, I finally realized, that I was in the place of recourse.

Later, at home after Mass, getting it all out with more inner screaming, and much, much writing, the Anchoress saved me from myself with this.
