Never having seen the stars of glory,
‘Til encountering them in You.
A mansion of grace without walls
Sheltered him in desert wastes.
The good in his heart was God.
He was a monstrance
His life was Gospel
Preached by a beating heart,
On fire to win man for God.
He lived preparing to die.
He expected martyrdom,
And lived in happy anticipation.
Desert priest and brother of all,
Pray for us,
Who still don’t see the stars.

Our Lady of Lourdes – Optional Memorial
“Today we remember the apparition of Our Lady of Lourdes to little Bernadette Soubirous in 1858. This 14-year-old girl saw the Blessed Virgin Mary standing in a small grotto. Initially, few believed her account but the young girl returned for eighteen apparitions of Our Lady. At times, thousands of people gathered around Bernadette to witness these events. They reported the appearance of a new surging spring where Bernadette had been instructed to drink and many miraculous healings occurred. Today, Lourdes is a magnificent Marian shrine where millions visit each year. ”
