PROTECT ABQ WOMEN & CHILDREN APPLAUDS ARCHBISHOP MICHAEL J. SHEEHAN, ARCHDIOCESE OF SANTA FE, FOR COMING OUT IN FULL SUPPORT OF THE PAIN CAPABLE UNBORN CHILD PROTECTION ORDINANCE

Statement by Archbishop Michael J. Sheehan on Late Term Abortion

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – Friday, September 27, 2013– – IMMEDIATE RELEASE

—Archbishop Michael J. Sheehan has issued the following statement:

The Archdiocese of Santa Fe congratulates the grass root efforts of so many to place a late term abortion ban on the ballot of the City of Albuquerque. This achievement demonstrates the people’s will to defend life.   As Archbishop of Santa Fe, I encourage all the people of Albuquerque to support the proposed ordinance to ban late term abortion after the 20th week. These children are able to feel pain and suffer greatly when aborted.   The campaign to pass this proposal will bear much fruit. First, if the ordinance passes, it will protect children. Second, the energy, time, and resources dedicated to the campaign will educate the public. I daily meet people who are shocked to know that New Mexico permits late term abortion. The public will be educated as to the reality of what is happening in our State.  New Mexico now attracts those seeking late term abortions from around the Country because of the lack of laws. During this campaign many people will learn the immorality of abortion and some children’s’ lives will be saved by the education of their parents.  I hope the State Legislature will pass a Statewide Bill banning late term abortion, given the support in Albuquerque.   Please join me in supporting this effort with energy, time, and resources. Together we can get out the vote on November 19, 2013.   Most Rev. Michael J. Sheehan Archbishop of Santa Fe

Who really died?

Who really died?
I never saw
The light of day.
Black descended,
Of a kind
I knew not,
And then no more….

How did I know you?
All I knew was you.
You flavored my becoming,
Your genes, my genes,
Your feelings,
Emotional rhythms,
Touching me
By blood connection.
All this,
And then no more…..

How did I feel you?
Warmth, gentle rocking
To and fro.
I felt you,
Heart-sounds
Surrounding me,
Pressing me,
Impressing me.
You whooshed at times
And hummed.
And then no more…..

How did I leave you?
I knew anguish
As once I knew you,
Your blood feeding mine,
I knew as parting,
Leaving behind mother
As gift withdrawn,
And bid goodbye.
Too young for endings,
Too soon to die,
And then no more…..

How now and by and by?
Sorrow and black
And then the Light.
New Day, as womb,
Enfolding me.
Life ending
Beginning yet again.
And I behold
The Face of God.
I live,
Knowing Love,
Yet still,
I wait for you.

Eternity has a door,
God knocks from His side,
I listen for you.
Pray but open the latch.
That you might die no more,
And free from sin,
Enter in.

There is yet more.
Who really died that day?

SIGN THE PLEDGE TO PROTECT WOMEN & CHILDREN FROM LATE-TERM ABORTION

DON’T LISTEN TO THE RHETORIC,
GET THE FACTS

LATE-TERM ABORTION IN
NEW MEXICO DOES NOT PROTECT
WOMEN’S HEALTH
OR SAFETY

  • Abortion is legal for any reason through all nine months of pregnancy in New Mexico until the day of birth.
  • Albuquerque is home to the largest late-term abortion facility in the country and is considered the late-term abortion capital of the nation.
  • Out-of-state doctors travel to our city each week to target the lack of common sense laws and regulations on abortion in New Mexico and profit from the lucrative and dangerous late-term abortion industry.
  • Abortion clinics that perform surgical abortion, including dangerous late-term abortion are not classified as ambulatory surgical centers.
  • The New Mexico Department of Health has no oversight over abortion clinics in New Mexico–making abortion clinics less safe and accountable than nail salons.

AN IMPORTANT NOTE FROM NEW MEXICO STATE REPRESENTATIVE, YVETTE HERRELL

Picture

Dear Friends of
Protect ABQ Women & Children,
My name is Yvette Herrell, and as a New Mexico State Representative, I applaud the work of the local, grassroots-led effort, Protect ABQ Women & Children, to ban late-term abortions in Albuquerque.Sadly, New Mexico is one of the few states that allow for abortions for any reason until the day of birth because it is difficult to pass common-sense restrictions through state legislative committees. Year after year, measures to protect the health and safety of women and children fail because of a handful of legislators who block those measures from getting to a full vote in the House or Senate. It is for this reason that nail salons have more oversight than abortion facilities in New Mexico. The abortion industry lobby has a stronghold in our state. Those that do not want this ban to pass, are not telling the truth about protecting women’s health — as it is much more dangerous for a mother to have a late-term abortion than to give birth. That’s why we must work even harder to reach every voter in Albuquerque and get them out to vote for the “Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Ordinance.”  This is a history-making vote that you can be an important part of. I am asking on behalf of Protect ABQ Women & Children for any donations that you are able to make to help pass the 20-week abortion ban that will ban abortion halfway through pregnancy and beyond. Early In-Person and Absentee voting begins on October 21. That means we only have a few days to get the message out to ban this horrific and dangerous practice in Albuquerque. Your contribution of $15, $35 or $50 can go a long way in helping to protect our women and children — and put a stop to the thriving late-term abortion industry in Albuquerque — which is home to the largest late-term abortion facility in the country. Thank you for your assistance, we look forward to a victory with your help. Again we are asking for any amount that you can help with. Please donate here, now. Thank you for your generosity and support.
Sincerely,

"And because the homicides involved in abortion are ”little murders” – the kind of private, legally protected murders that kill conveniently unseen lives – it’s easy to look the other way." "Cardinal Francis George said recently, too many Americans have ”no recognition of the fact that children continue to be killed [by abortion], and we live therefore, in a country drenched in blood. This can’t be something you start playing off pragmatically against other issues.” Archbishop Charles Chaput

So much has already been written on life, choice and abortion. What is important is life and truth, not my opinion or anyone else’s. The women having abortions are as much victims of the Big Lie as are the innocent fetuses they choose to abort. Politics, consumerism, relativism etc. reign like gods with promises of life after death, but in their world it is the fetus that must die in order for life to be lived as a selfish society deems happy and liberated.
Bishop Martino’s response to the social argument, “As wrong as abortion is, I don’t think it is the only relevant ‘life’ issue that should be considered when deciding for whom to vote.” He wrote:

This reasoning is sound only if other issues carry the same moral weight as abortion does, such as in the case of euthanasia and destruction of embryos for research purposes. Health care, education, economic security, immigration, and taxes are very important concerns. Neglect of any one of them has dire consequences as the recent financial crisis demonstrates. However, the solutions to problems in these areas do not usually involve a rejection of the sanctity of human life in the way that abortion does. Being “right” on taxes, education, health care, immigration, and the economy fails to make up for the error of disregarding the value of a human life. Consider this: the finest health and education systems, the fairest immigration laws, and the soundest economy do nothing for the child who never sees the light of day. It is a tragic irony that “pro-choice” candidates have come to support homicide – the gravest injustice a society can tolerate – in the name of “social justice.

Komen Troubles Attributed to Planned Parenthood Controversy
By CHARLOTTE HAYS | DALLASIn 2012, the abortion provider waged a successful public relations campaign to force Komen, which supports initiatives to fight breast cancer, to reverse a controversial decision to discontinue voluntary financial grants to Planned Parenthood. Now, two years later, the abortion group greeted the appointment of Dr. Salerno with warm words.
“We wish Dr. Salerno well in this important new role, and we’re proud of our continued partnerships with Komen and others to ensure that all women, regardless of income, have access to information and high-quality health care to prevent, detect and treat breast cancer,” Eric Ferrero, Planned Parenthood’s vice president for communications, said in a statement. Calls to Planned Parenthood asking for additional information were not returned.
‘We Aren’t Going Away’
Not everybody agrees. ”She’ll be perfect for what Planned Parenthood wants,” Doug Scott, president of Life Decisions International, an organization that keeps tabs on Planned Parenthood, said of the appointment.
He was not in a conciliatory mood. “It’s important for Komen to understand that we aren’t going away,” he said. Life Decisions International lists businesses that contribute to Planned Parenthood on its website.
Salerno “did say that health is not a partisan issue, and pro-lifers should hold her to that,” said Rachel Bohannon, former communications manager for Texas Right to Life. “She needs to crack down on those pass-through grants to Planned Parenthood.”
However, Bohannon doesn’t expect Komen to keep its distance from Planned Parenthood under Salerno. “Once you’re in bed with Planned Parenthood, and they are bad bedfellows, you can’t leave. Komen was no match for them.”
