I Want a Miracle!

According to the Drudge Report and Rep. John Culberson of Texas, Speaker Nancy Pelosi may already be in Rome; on the supposed agenda, a meeting with His Holiness Benedict XVI.

Nancy strikes me as an upfront,in your face,no apologies-type gal.  I can see her kissing the papal ring while sporting a Pro-Choice tee? However, despite my knee jerk emotions, I'll be joining the Anchoress praying for Nancy's enlightenment. I can hang with hope, since I must, but I want a miracle!

A Little Guy Who Really Cares

Just stepping up and doing the right thing.

Who Has Bewitched You?

Early this morning,  I read these words in the Office of  Readings:

But the time came when He who had set me apart before I was born and called me by His favor chose to reveal His Son to me, that I might spread among the Gentiles the good tidings concerning Him.”  Galatians 1:15-16

My thoughts flew to the issue of Life; God creating each one of us purposefully; knowing us as we are, with all our faults and failings and even our misguided “good” intentions.   Paul had just finished describing to the Galatians his background,  including what had been his well meaning ambitions previous to his conversion:

You know that I went to extremes in persecuting the Church of God and tried to destroy it; I made progress in Jewish observance far beyond most of my contemporaries, in my excess of zeal to live out all the traditions of my ancestors.” Galatians 1:13-15

As I thought about this, it wasn’t much of a leap from there to recalling the arguments and dismissals of those in the pro-abortion camp,  declaring an unborn child as:  no child, no purpose, a blob of tissue, an inconvenience, a mistake (recall President Obama’s words), an economical burden (Nancy Pelosi’s words.)  In addressing the Galatians for their having strayed from the Truth,  Paul says, “O stupid Galatians!  Who has bewitched you?” Galations 3:1.  How much more can these words be spoken to our generation so steeped in secular relativism and materialism.

If God not only had Paul’s personhood in mind before he was conceived,  but also had a plan for Paul, which included His Church, and had a moment in Time set,  in which He would enable Paul to see clearly and become the man He called him to be, then how can we continue to throw away precious life as though God isn’t watching, isn’t caring, and isn’t remembering?  Is Paul’s term, “Stupid,” strong enough to characterize so many so zealous in their war against life in our  present culture of Death?

With Great Sadness, A Farewell

The news was sudden, sad and unexpected.   Amy’s beloved husband, Michael, was gone.  Amy Welborn Dubruiel, writer of all things Catholic,  is living on the trust her husband Michael wrote about in his awe-inspiring  The Last Column . He is remembered and celebrated by all who knew him and knew of him.  In his last column for OSV, Mike spoke of  what his friend, Fr. Benedict Groeschel had called “The Big Lie.’ It is that, “If we say all the right prayers and live correctly, then nothing bad will ever happen to us.” Michael then related a true story told him by Fr. Benedict:

Diana was a young Puerto Rican woman who grew up in a very faith filled home. Even though they were poor, her mother taught her at an early age to trust God above everything. By the time she was old enough to go to college, Diana found a way to pursue her education – again something that she credited to her strong faith – and became the first member of her large family to graduate from college. She then married and was hired by a large investment firm in New York.

Even though her job kept her busy, she found time to attend Mass everyday. When her friends threw parties, Diana made up goodie bags for them that included candy and make-up, but also a prayer book and holy water. When a member of her family couldn’t pay their bills, Diana secretly paid them. When someone in the family got into trouble she bailed them out of jail.

One night Diana had a strange dream. In the dream Jesus appeared to her, dressed in a white robe, standing on a cloud of smoke. He was beckoning her to come to him, telling her not to worry, that he was going to take her with him. Then it seemed to her that the whole world disappeared from beneath her and she awoke. She told her husband about the dream the next morning, but he didn’t want to hear about it—it scared him.

The next few nights, the dream repeated itself. She told her mother, who wondered what it could mean.

A month later on September 11, 2001, Diana was at work at her investment firm in the World Trade Center on one of the top floors. She phoned her husband and mother on her cell phone after the second plane struck the tower below her. She reminded them of the dream, just before the tower crumbled.

What is the opposite of the “big lie”? Trust.

To hear Michael speak, Amy suggests Spirit Catholic Radio

“There is an appointed time for everything… A time to be born and a time to die…. A time to weep. and a time to laugh and to mourn …a time embrace…a time to be silent …  A time to love”    Ecclesiastes 3

Amy our hearts are with you and your family.

“Hard Is Not Hopeless” Gen. David Petreaus

Sen. Joseph Lieberman says,

“The war on terror will end once we’ve empowered the Muslim majority to stand up against extremists.”

In his piece in The Wall Street Journal Opinion ,  Sen. Joseph Lieberman both warns of the dangers looming in Afghanistan and encourages with an eye to our strengths:

The biggest strength is the American military, which through the crucible of Iraq has transformed itself into the most effective counterinsurgency force in history. Although Iraq and Afghanistan are very different, many of the guiding principles of counterinsurgency do apply to both theaters — most importantly, the need to provide security for the population. Moreover, our troops will be redeploying from Iraq to Afghanistan with the momentum, experience and morale that comes with success.

Obama Got It Wrong!

USA Today published the latest Gallup Poll that showed Obama got it wrong.  This man of the people doesn’t yet know the People.  However, to be fair, I think when he signed the executive order to restore U.S. funding to organizations that perform and promote abortion in developing nations by repealing the Mexico City Policy he knew this act was out of step with the American will.  Obama, while he did some things with great fanfare, this sneak-signing was something he chose to do behind closed doors, out of the limelight and at such a time that it was thought in media circles that people wouldn’t notice. Well, he got that wrong too and people are noticing his propensity for rule by fiat and getting it wrong.

The Gallup Poll showed that only 35% of the polled 1027 people agreed with President Obama’s action.  Hadly, a popular action of necessity!  US taxpayer dollars will promote  and procure abortions in the name of America.  Thank you President Obama!
