Chaput Moving Catholics To Action

What’s in a word?  Archbishop Chaput will tell you:

Archbishop of Denver Charles J. Chaput delivered a speech on Saturday reflecting on the significance of the November 2008 election. Warning that media “narratives” should not obscure truth, he blamed the indifference and complacency of many U.S. Catholics for the country’s failures on abortion, poverty and immigration issues.

He also advised Catholics to “master the language of popular culture” and to refuse to be afraid, saying “fear is the disease of our age.”

Expansion of Human Embryo Experimentation.

Thoughts of the Great Unwashed point  here for a read on the label given Obama as the “abortion president”:

One of the most outspoken abortion opponents in Congress labeled President Obama the “abortion president” on Friday in response to news that Obama intended to sign an executive order Monday lifting restrictions on federal funding for embryonic stem cell research.

Rep. Chris Smith, R-N.J., accused Obama of launching two attacks on pro-life measures. In addition to lifting President Bush’s stem cell restrictions, Obama intends to lift regulations from the Bush administration that allow health care providers and institutions to refuse to participate in abortions on grounds of conscience.

“Why does the president persist in the dehumanizing of nascent human life when better alternatives exist? Human embryo-destroying stem cell research is not only unethical, unworkable and unreliable- it is now, demonstrably unnecessary,” Smith said.Smith labeled Obama’s stem cell policy an expansion of “human embryo experimentation.”

Life & Conscience – Not debatable!

Where pray tell is Obama’s conscience?   The Anchoress writes: Obama: Your conscience means nothing to me… after seeing the story she knew was coming:

“Taking another step into the abortion debate, the Obama administration today will move to rescind a controversial rule that allows health-care workers to deny abortion counseling or other family planning services if doing so would violate their moral belie, according to administration officials.

It makes me want to cry, while at the same time making me fighting mad,  that life and conscience take yet another hit.  The hit-man, Obama, means for that to keep happening, day after day, week after week, eating away at our morality.  We will be losing bits and pieces of our humanity.   Soon, we won’t recognize this country. A lot of Americans are re-thinking Obama, but where to from here? Obama will keep the pressure on.  Here’s one man pushing back:

Choice’s Little Murders

“And because the homicides involved in abortion are ”little murders” – the kind of private, legally protected murders that kill conveniently unseen lives – it’s easy to look the other way.”

“Cardinal Francis George said recently, too many Americans have ”no recognition of the fact that children continue to be killed [by abortion], and we live therefore, in a country drenched in blood. This can’t be something you start playing off pragmatically against other issues.”

Archbishop Charles Chaput

12-week-fetus1

What choice actually means.

I reached into my pocket and found the small plastic fetus I use to interject reality into the conversation on Life vs. abortion in a time in which we have to show people the cost of abstracted arguments hiding behind “privacy” and “choice”.

I believe that if we realized the person in-utero is not hanging in some ethereal place while we decide whether or not we can accomodate our lives to their presence in the here and now, realizing that they are a reality and not a choice, and that their one life is all they have on earth and they want it just as much as we want, defend and protect our own, for they precious to us, then the abortion debate would be over.

Here I Am

Here I am, beneath your heart,
My heart beating in happy harmony,
As my frame perceives
The gentle throbbing within your breast,
Serene.

I began in secret and in darkness,
A mystery, even to myself.
Day by day, nature shapes my clay,
As you await the blessed dawn of my birth day.

What I know, I know by existence.
I am now all trust,
Simply growing,
Simply becoming who I am.

Comfort, you give comfort.
Love, you are all I know of love.
As you wait for me, my mother,
The eyes of my soul are wide open.
I behold you, smiling upon me.

Expectant, vigilant and gleeful,
Mother of my moments,
You cradle me.
You are my home of sweet delight.

“We need to remember that tolerance is not a Christian virtue, and it’s never an end in itself. In fact, tolerating grave evil within a society is itself a form of evil.” Archbishop Charles Chaput

As Presidents’ Day bids us remember our nation’s presidents and the legacy they left to our country, we would do well to pray for President Barack Obama.  The legacy of “Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness” rests first and foremost on the God-given gift of Life.  No life:  no liberty and no pursuit of happiness!

If President Obama’s promises to Planned Parenthood to sign FOCA  (in whatever form it finally emerges) are realized in law, this president’s legacy will be written in the deaths of countless more unborn Americans.
