Making Biased Media Irrelevant? – A Dream Coming True

There is good news here and hope. (Not Obama’s kind but real hope.)  Since Daniel Hannan made his speech to European Parliament, aimed at Gordon Brown , tens of thousands world wide respond. Newspapers passe?

“When I woke up this morning, my phone was clogged with texts, my email inbox with messages. Overnight, the YouTube clip of my remarks had attracted over 36,000 hits. By today, it was the most watched video in Britain.

How did it happen, in the absence of any media coverage? The answer is that political reporters no longer get to decide what’s news.”

Standing Up to the Rulers

The Anchoress reaches across the cyber-pond to find this gem. This voice of the people is Daniel Hannan undressing Parliament.  The Anchoress thanks Gerald Werner as do I.  Werner says:

“For anyone who has ever dreamed of being able to tell our rulers, to their faces, precisely what we think of them, Daniel Hannan’s recently posted video of himself doing exactly that to Gordon Brown in the European Parliament is compulsive viewing.”

Touch Down Africa

Pope Bededict XVI touched down yesterday in Cameroon.  According to the AP, this is the Pope’s first trip as pontiff to Africa. “For Benedict, whose only previous stop in Africa was in Kinshasa in 1987 as a cardinal, the continent presents major challenges and opportunities. He is expected to address them in meetings with Muslim representatives, bishops, health workers and women’s advocacy groups.”

This is the first day in his seven day pilgrimage. The Roman Catholic Church is booming and blooming in Africa. “Africa produces priests at a higher rate than anywhere in the world but finds itself in competition with Islam in Cameroon..”

“Benedict said he wants to invigorate the growing church in Africa. ‘I intend to confirm Catholics in their faith,” he said, and ‘proclaim the peace entrusted to the Church” by Jesus. Benedict said that as he sets out for Africa, he has in mind ‘the victims of hunger, disease, injustice, fratricidal conflicts and every form of violence which unfortunately continue to afflict adults and children, without sparing missionaries’ and volunteers working on the continent.”

“The Catholic Church has been one body that has been consistent in the development of the African continent not only spiritually, but in the provision of quality education, health care, caring for the neglected and victims of natural and man made disasters. It has also spoken up against corrupt and inept leaders in a fearless and constructive manner. The Church is only fulfilling its mandate to bring light to a darkened world and needs to continue this mission unceasingly. Africa definitely needs the Church. Osayawe Ogieva, Nigeria”

Obama’s ‘Science’ Fiction – Possible vs Permissible

“Science has everything to say about what is possible. Science has nothing to say about what is permissible.”

Although Charles Krauthammer is wrong on where to draw the line in stem cell research, I think you will find his stance against President Obama’s stance a must read.  Krauthammer is “not religious” and so to his mind sees no definitive guideline as to when person-hood is bestowed. To my mind the science of it tells the tale.  Peering into the beginning moments of life with powerful cameras records the change from ova and sperm entities to new being with all the where-with-all to command the hormones and functions of the mother’s body to make possible its continuance and growth. It has not only presence but power to command.

The Truth of the matter, and our relationship to the Creator from the instant of our becoming a unique individual at the conjoining of ovum and sperm,  is still hidden from Krauthammer.  It does help to have the Truth that is revealed by the Creator through the Scriptures, the Church and the Tradition of both Church and Man (Natural Law.) I leave this as another issue for another day.  Krauthammer does believe in Evil. He opposes Obama’s replacing Bush’s line with “no line at all.”

This is more than moral abdication. It is acquiescence to the mystique of “science” and its inherent moral benevolence. How anyone as sophisticated as Obama can believe this within living memory of Mengele and Tuskegee and the fake (and coercive) South Korean stem cell research is hard to fathom. [My emphasis]

Though Krauthammer does not know when to confer person-hood, he says:

“I also do not believe that a human embryo is the moral equivalent of a hangnail and deserves no more respect than an appendix. Moreover, given the protean power of embryonic manipulation, the temptation it presents to science and the well-recorded human propensity for evil even in the pursuit of good, lines must be drawn. I suggested the bright line prohibiting the deliberate creation of human embryos solely for the instrumental purpose of research — a clear violation of the categorical imperative not to make a human life (even if only a potential human life) a means rather than an end.

Krauthammer judges Obama as morally arrogant in the extreme, dismissing “his critics as ideological while he is guided exclusively by pragmatism (in economics, social policy, foreign policy) and science in medical ethics.” Or so Obama expects us to believe.

Krauthammer says of President George W. Bush:

“Bush’s nationally televised stem cell speech was the most morally serious address on medical ethics ever given by an American president. It was so scrupulous in presenting the best case for both his view and the contrary view that until the last few minutes, the listener had no idea where Bush would come out.”

I am reminded of the recent movie, I Am Legion, a futuristic nightmare with basis in possibility if not history for a scenario of science run amok. Krauthammer concludes his dismembering of Obama’s so called reasoned logic:

Dr. James Thomson, the pioneer of embryonic stem cells, said “if human embryonic stem cell research does not make you at least a little bit uncomfortable, you have not thought about it enough.” Obama clearly has not.

“Science has everything to say about what is possible. Science has nothing to say about what is permissible.”

World Turned Upside Down

Down,down,down, goes the economy!

Just in time to play into Obama’s power grab.   Says the Anchoress: “The president seems wholly untroubled by any of this and is happily continuing on toward the creation of “one world” with a global “new deal” on his mind. The swiftness with which he is accruing and consolidating power is breathtaking, and most people don’t even realize he’s doing it.”

Amen, Sister!

What is the puppet-master doing?  According to Saj-nicole A. Joni writing for Forbes.com:

“Great leaders know that significant opportunity lies in a world turned upside down.”

“It can be summed up in the phrase “Never waste a crisis.” When Rahm Emanuel, President-elect Barack Obama’s chief of staff, was quoted saying this in The New York Times, he articulated what is on the minds of many of the global business leaders…”

“Great” is not what I would call Obama.  “Audacious” fits!  And it’s not HOPE he’s selling this time.  He’s selling America down the river for a socialist dream; a Utopian dream that has never worked in this world.  Whether Obama is puppet-master or Pied-Piper, I can only ask, what has Congress been drinking?  Kool-Aid?!

Ouch! Krauthammer Lowers the Boom

Charles Krauthammer pulls no punches.

President Obama bobs and weaves all over the ring, but  punches keep coming. Putin’s in rare form.  If only Krauthammer were in the ring with Putin.  But no,  it’s  Putin and Obama.

The Russian is landing his punches left and right straight to the mid-section.  Obama is taking it on the ropes. Weak response as Putin slams:

Putin puts the gloves to Kyrgyzstan and shuts down a US air base.

Putin forms a “rapid reaction force” to keep the muscle on muslim areas north of Afghanistan.

Putin flaunts plans to establish a naval base in recently conquered Abkhazia.

Putin, Putin, Putin!

Obama is dazed..  He doesn’t seem to know he’s in the ring.  He’s smiling, waving. Campaigning!?

I can’t watch!

Krauthammer calls it “Supine Diplomacy.”
